‘Eli Stone’ 2.05: The Humanitarian

In the new episode of “Eli Stone”, Eli and Jordon have problems with regular clientele and keeping up with costs with their new firm. Eli convinces Jim Cooper, a billionaire philanthropist, to let them lead the charge to start a clinical trial testing the efficacy of medicinal marijuana as a cure for MS in children, namely Cooper’s son.

However, Eli learns Cooper’s son doesn’t want to be a part of the trial, placing Eli in a moral dilemma. Meanwhile, Keith represents Patti’s daughter after she’s arrested for DUI, while Matt and Maggie work to find the traitor amongst the new firm who is helping Posner/Klein lure clients away.

The episode titled “The Humanitarian” will air November 18. Last month, ABC announced that they have extended the show by ordering four more episodes. “It’s an incredible vote of confidence,” said executive producer, Marc Guggenheim. “… I figured at the very least that would give them a day’s worth of ratings to analyze. And they were like, ‘Nope, we’ll just order them now.’”

‘Eli Stone’: Breaking up is hard to do

I didn’t catch the last episode of Eli Stone, so when this week’s opened with Eli in the shower with Maggie, I understandably thought I’d been dropped into an alternate universe. But given the nature of the show, I wasn’t surprised when it turned out to be a vision, with Eli as Maggie’s fiance, Scott. It’s far from the only alternative-universe moment. The firm is splitting in two, with Martin Posner and Marcy Klein breaking off to continue their money-grubbing ways (just kidding), and Jordan and Eli going in a public interest law direction; and everyone in the firm is forced to choose sides.

Both good and evil spoilers ahead…

Tom Cruise To Guest Star On ‘Eli Stone’

Tom Cruise makes a surprise visit to the Union Station set of the ABC comedy-drama Eli Stone in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old actor reportedly filmed a cameo for an upcoming episode for the show’s second season. Eli Stone is about a “thirty-something attorney, whose name is the title of the show, begins having larger-than-life visions that compel him to do out-of-the-ordinary things.” Jennifer Aniston was also rumored to have filmed a cameo for Eli Stone, but that rumor was debunked.

DVD

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced the DVD release of Eli Stone - The Complete 1st Season. All 13 episodes are included of ABC’s new series about a California lawyer who suddenly has visions - are they fantasy (due to his inoperable brain aneurysm), or prophecy? - and wants to use them to do good. What sounds like it could be a somewhat morbid premise, actually translates into a bright, humorous and quirky show that comes to DVD on September 2nd. And it’s packaged with bonus material:

- Acting on Faith: Eli & George Michael
- Turning a Prophet: The Creation of Eli Stone
- Creating Visions: The Effects of Eli Stone
- Inside the Firm: The Natasha Henstridge Tour
- Deleted Scenes, Bloopers

Jonny Lee Miller (Hackers, Æon Flux film) stars as the title character, and you’ll also see Natasha Henstridge (Species films, The Whole Nine Yards), Victor Garber (Alias, Titanic) and Loretta Devine (Grey’s Anatomy, Boston Public) on the regular cast. As you see in the extras above, singer George Michael - a favorite of the producers - plays a big role in the course of the show, and appears in several episodes.

Other guest stars include Pamela Reed, Katey Sagal, Johnny Pacar, Thomas Cavanagh, James Remar, Mary-Pat Green, Ethan Phillips and Richard Schiff. Cost is $39.99 SRP for a 4-disc set, but you can already pre-order it from Amazon for $27.99. Cost in Canada is CA$44.99 SRP.
